About Eugene J. McCaffrey, Jr., P.J.Cv. (Ret.)
Appointed to the Superior Court of New Jersey in 2004, the Honorable Eugene J. McCaffrey, Jr. served as the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division of Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties for the last 6 years prior to his retirement. During that time, he presided over 130 trials. He managed and settled complex civil matters including personal injury, professional malpractice, employment /labor disputes, products liability, consumer fraud, land use, real estate, contract, toxic torts, construction, corporate disputes, and insurance coverage. He has also served as the conflict Chancery Judge handling general equity and probate matters.
During Judge McCaffrey’s tenure, he was the Chairman of the Supreme Court Arbitration Advisory Committee. He also served on the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Expediting Civil Actions and the Judiciary Advisory Committee on Information Technology. Judge McCaffrey has been a presenter for ICLE for the annual Civil Case Law Update and and has been a panelist for the New Jersey State Bar Association. He has served as a frequent panelist on professionalism for Vicinage XV. Judge McCaffrey's average ranking in the last 3 judicial surveys conducted by the New Jersey Law Journal was in the top 10% of all trial judges in the State of New Jersey. Judge McCaffrey lectured at the New Judge Orientation for several years.
Prior to serving on the court, Judge McCaffrey received the designation of Certified Civil Trial Attorney from the New Jersey Supreme Court. He received an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell. During his years of practice, he litigated a diverse range of matters in state and federal courts and provided counsel to several municipalities, business clients, real estate developers and individuals. He served on the New Jersey District IV Ethics Committee and was a civil arbitrator for Gloucester County for several years prior to his appointment to the bench in 2004.
Since founding McCaffrey ADR, Judge McCaffrey has mediated and arbitrated over 500 cases.
